tony: high-toned; stylish
lugubriously - "Not as puny as that one, lovey," said Anna lugubriously, clearing the soup plates to make way for chocolate cake. (p. 197)
lugubriously: mournful, dismal, or gloomy, esp. in an affected, exaggerated, or unrelieved manner

ReplyDeleteLugubriously is the only word I had heard of, but couldn't remember the definition. I'm more likely to remember tony. Thanks for sharing a great list.

ReplyDeleteI think that kids love learning big words. I know that is part of the appeal of the Fancy Nancy books. I think it's even more fun if you learn something your parents don't know!
