Giveaway: The Art of Racing in the Rain

Summary: Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.

Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. Using the techniques needed on the race track, one can successfully navigate all of life's ordeals.

On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through: the sacrifices Denny has made to succeed professionally; the unexpected loss of Eve, Denny's wife; the three-year battle over their daughter, Zoë, whose maternal grandparents pulled every string to gain custody. In the end, despite what he sees as his own limitations, Enzo comes through heroically to preserve the Swift family, holding in his heart the dream that Denny will become a racing champion with Zoë at his side. Having learned what it takes to be a compassionate and successful person, the wise canine can barely wait until his next lifetime, when he is sure he will return as a man.

A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life . . . as only a dog could tell it. -- Harper

I recently read and reviewed Garth Stein's RAVEN STOLE THE MOON. I even gave away a copy to one lucky reader. Well, the folks at Terra Communications just happened to send me an extra copy of THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN (you can read my review here.) I noticed in the giveaway for RAVEN STOLE THE MOON that many of you haven't read THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN yet, so I am very excited to share this copy with one of you. To enter the giveaway, all you have to do is leave a comment with a valid email address. This contest will be open until Sunday, April 4, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. ET, and I will announce the winner the following day. This contest is open to those of you in the U.S. and Canada only. Good luck!

Dear Julie!
I just discovered your blog today and was curious about you giving books away. After I read your review on "The art of raicing in the rain", it brought a lot of memories to my mind. Simply for the previlige to have Mickey as a dog, family companion and the best creature I ever known in my life. Once he saved my younger daughter's life by guarding her at night and being so loyal to all of us till last minute of his life. 6 years already passed by since his death but we still miss his personality. I would love to read this book and it will be now on my reading list. Thank you Julie for your offering!

P.S: Sorry I forgot to include my email... ilona.tsaryova@gmail.com
