Brunch with Author Joe Wallace

Yesterday was the day that I finally got to meet Joe Wallace author of one of my favorite books of the year DIAMOND RUBY. As many of you know, I absolutely loved the book and you can read my review here. I am so happy to say that Joe is exactly what I was expecting. He is truly one of the nicest men I've ever met, and I loved how much passion he has for his character Ruby!

I am extremely grateful to my friends Todd and Sam at Aaron's Books because they coordinated this entire event. All of the guests had a chance to mingle with Joe and then we all sat down and had a delicious brunch. Todd and Sam went all out -- from lots of food to the baseball themed centerpieces for the table.

Joe has mentioned to me that he loves to talk about his book, and he wasn't lying. I mean that in the nicest way though! I had such a fantastic time hearing about his inspiration for DIAMOND RUBY as well as the research he conducted while writing the book. I was also thrilled to hear that he has two more DIAMOND RUBY books planned, and he already knows how they start and end. But he's not so sure about what happens in the middle!

I rarely have the opportunity to meet with authors in this way, but I always find that I end up loving the book even more after talking with them. That was certainly the case with Joe Wallace. And I really didn't think I could like DIAMOND RUBY more than I already did! I was reminded of how much this book and its characters meant to me when I read it, and I also remembered that this book would be perfect for young adults too. If it weren't for the length of the story, I'd be handing it to Booking Daughter right now.

Check out this very unique book trailer for DIAMOND RUBY! If I haven't tempted you enough with all of my gushing, then maybe this sneak preview will!

And don't forget, I'm giving away a copy of DIAMOND JOE along with a baseball card and a baseball cap. This really is one of those books that I think everyone should read! Click here to enter!

I am so happy that the event was a success. I must make more of an effort. I've already warned my friend in Camp Hill that I'll be staying with her for KidLit weekend.
