Kid Konnection: Animal Planet Animal Bites Books
Every Saturday, I host a feature called Kid Konnection -- a regular weekend feature about anything related to children's books. This week I'm going to share with you two books for the animal lovers in your life!
Summary: Everything younger readers ages 4-8 want to know about their absolute favorite animals living in both polar climates, habitat by habitat.
With more than 200 gorgeous animal photos of penguins, polar bears, sea lions, walruses, reindeer and others, Animal Planet Polar Animals is a fun, habitat-by-habitat guide that provides kids in the first years of schooling with the perfect bite-sized view of their favorite animals living in both polar climates. Arranged thematically with focus on animal behavior and family relationships, young readers will explore sections about animal bodies, baby animals, food, play time, conservation, and more. Special book features designed for this age group include Quick Bites sidebars with cool animal facts, simple infographics, and illustrated maps of the coldest places on Earth.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Animal Planet's R.O.A.R. (Reach Out. Act. Respond.) project which partners with leading animal organization to make the world a better place for domestic and wild animals. -- Time, Inc. Books

ANIMAL BITES POLAR ANIMALS and ANIMAL BITES OCEAN ANIMALS by Laaren Brown are wonderful resources for young children who want to learn more about animals. These full-size softcover books are both educational and fun. They are chock full of gorgeous color photographs, but they also have tons of fun facts! And they are very reasonable price at only $12.95.
The Animal Bites series is inspired by Animal Planet's popular Animal Bites blog. Unfortunately, I wasn't familiar with this blog, but I'm sure many of you are! ANIMAL BITES POLAR ANIMALS and ANIMAL BITES OCEAN ANIMALS are just two books from this wonderful series. The series encourage emerging readers to explore animal bodies, baby animals, playtime, and more. I think these books are just fantastic!
ANIMAL BITES POLAR ANIMALS focuses on animals that survive and thrive in the Earth's polar regions including Arctic foxes, lemmings, Emperor Penguins, jellyfish. polar bears, and more; while
ANIMAL BITES OCEAN ANIMALS features animals that live in oceans such as killer whales, sea turtles, albatross, sharks, and dolphins.
One thing I appreciated about both ANIMAL BITES POLAR ANIMALS and ANIMAL BITES OCEAN ANIMALS is that they have bright labels on each page spread which help kids use them. On the top right hand corner, there is a colorful tab which identifies if the page teaches about such things as where they live, how they live, vista, big data, animals gallery, conservation, and more! It's a great way to skim the book if children are only looking for (or interested in) certain things.
These books are just gorgeous! The 200+ photographs are truly breath-taking; however, I was also very impressed with just how much information is on each page. There aren't a ton of words so it's not intimidating for the younger set, but there are fun facts and cool graphics presented in a very user-friendly way. Some children will want to read the books from beginning to end, while others will enjoy just looking at the photographs and reading the items that capture their attention.
While the books are geared towards children ages 4 - 8, I think children much older and adults will also love these books. Not only do these books belong in home libraries, but they are a must-have for schools and public libraries. To make these books even better, there are supplemental activity ideas that can be found here.
I admit that I was blown away ANIMAL BITES POLAR ANIMALS and ANIMAL BITES OCEAN ANIMALS. Highly recommended and perfect gift ideas for Earth Day!
Thanks to the Blue Slip Media for providing review copies of these books.

I have these books too and could tell just from a quick glance that they were fabulous! I can't wait to give them a good look through!
Oh my gosh, Vance has always loved animals and would have flipped over these when he was young.
Jude would love these! The photographs are beautiful!
